Abstract:
Mineral liberation analyzer (MLA), scanning electron microscope(SEM), and other analysis were used to study the mineralogical characteristics of the Tianxing quartz sandstone ore at Daguan, Yunnan Province in this paper. The result showed that the SiO
2 content of the ore was 98.95%, and the content of quartz was 98.47%. the other minerals were rutile, zircon, clay mineral, and so on. The primary particle size of quartz was 100~210 μm, and the clay minerals were below 10 μm or 75~150 μm, the rutile and zircon were 38~75 μm. Most of the quartz, rutile and zircon existed as clastics in the ore, and most of the clay minerals existed as cementation. Most of the impurities were presented between quartz, only a few were surrounded by quartz. The analysis of the ore at different position showed that under the similarity grinding fineness, the content of harmful minerals such as rutile in the thin−layered ore were higher than thick plate ore. It was suggested that Yunnan Daguan Tianxing quartz sandstone ore should be graded and utilized according to the ore properties, among which the thick plate ore was suitable for high−end uses such as processing ultra−white quartz sand, and the thin−layered ore can be considered as the raw material of low−end quartz sand. At the same time, it was suggested that the grinding fineness should be appropriately reduced in the beneficiation process to improve the dissociation degree of quartz monomer.
