Abstract:
Drugs and devices based on bio-nanomaterials have promising applications in precision and personalized therapy. Diatomite, as a strategic nonmetallic mineral, has great potential for biomedical applications due to its high specific surface area, biocompatibility, ease of surface modification, thermal stability, high mechanical and chemical resistance, and low cost. The structural properties, purification, surface chemical functionalization, and biocompatibility of diatomite materials are presented, and the applications of diatomite in biomedical fields such as drug delivery, biosensing, tissue engineering, and hemostatic agents are reviewed.
